either è usato per enfatizzare un alternativa mentre both esprime la combinazione di due cose (nomi verbi ecc.)

La possibilità in un alternativa può essere espressa enfaticamente con Whether che è usato quando c'è un forte possibilità che l'azione o condizione è espressa da un verbo che potrebbe non essere vera o avere un diverso risultato. La maggior parte delle volte può esser rimpiazzato da if
I don't know whether/if I will work satisfactorily (or not)
you must ask whether/if they are ready to accept a long delivery period (or not)
whether può esser anche riferito a due o più possibilità e non può essere sostituito da if
Price of raw materials will increase steadily whether we like it or not.
