Hi I'm the girl from diary. My name is Mary Lou. Today is Sunday, a day off but I have a lot to do all the same. At 11 o'clock I must get up. At midday I must do a little yoga. At half past twelve I must eat at home with mother and father, At 2 o'clock in the afternoon I must telephone Isadora, then I must wait till 5 when I meet Isadora at the cinema. I can't play my new records when my parents are at home because they  are fed up with music. At 7 I must goto eat a pizza at the Spaghetti house. At 8I must telephone home to ask if I may stay out.I mustn't argue with my parents and be down if I must go home early.

made the coach jolt, let you have  sono espressioni che corrispondono all'italiano fare seguito da infinito con valore  attivo ( cioè il sostantivo o pronome compie l'azione dell'infinito) 

fare seguito da un inficito si rende in fatti con  

a)  to make + sostantivo o pronome + infinito senza to se il verbo  fare ha il valore di obbligare 

esempio 

he made me go with him  = mi fece andare con lui

b) to get + sostantivo o pronome + infinito co to  se il verbo fare ha valore di indurre, persuadere

esempio 

He got  me to take the plane = mi fece ( mi persuase a ) prendere l'aereo 

c)  to let + sostantivo  + infinito senza to se il verbo fare ha valore di lasciare, permettere 

esempio 

 let me come with you  = fammi (lasciami) venire con te 

to make + aggettivo  significa rendere 

essempio

Il verbo to ask ne senso di chiedere per sapere  regge il doppio soggetto 

esempio  Why are you asking me that ? he asked me a question

Quando  invece to ask ha il significato di chiedere per ottenere la cosa richiesta è preceduta da for 

esempio

-er  è un prefisso usato per formare sostantivi dai verbi

ecco quando scegliere l'uno o l'altro 

l'infinito cioè la forma base del verbo 

si utilizza 

- dopo aggettivi 

es it is impossible to do this 

- dopo nomi 

there is no need to cry

- dopo verbi 

we might go out

dopo espressione come :

I would rather go out

- dopo verbi e pronome interrogativo 

can you tell me how to do this

il gerundio 

si forma con la forma in -ing 

si usa

- come soggetto di una frase

terrific = deriva dal l


atino  terrificus e significa spaventoso ma in Inghilterra con umorismo significa bello da far paura

confetti = in inglese significa coriandoli utilizzati non solo a carnevale ma anche nei matrimoni 

mobile =  significa telefono cellulare  e non arredamento

Hey presto = è una espressione usata dal prestigiatore e significa ecco fatto!

parents = significa genitori e non parenti che invece sono relatives

jolly = allegro 

villain = in inglese si usa per indicare una persona pericolosa

cellar = cantina

factory = che potrebbe essere scambiata per fattoria in inglese significa fabbrica la forma breve di manufactory

cartoon = non significa cartoni ma disegno su carta 

camera = da non confondere con stanza ma macchina fotografica 

ape = non bisogna confonderlo con ape ( in inglese bee)  ma significa scimmia ( gorilla scimpanzé oranghi grosse e senza coda ) normalmente scimmia piccola con la coda  si traduce con monkey

mess = confusione

fabric = tessuto come cotton (cotone) wool, silk (seta)

vacancy  = non vacanza ma di solito cartelli nei motel che significa che ha posti liberi vacanza in inglese è holiday

library = non libreria ma biblioteca

rumour = non rumore ma pettegolezzi

stamp = non stampa ma francobollo
