ci sono 4 tipi di nomi in inglese

nomi comuni  : table dog  man
nomi propri :  Tom, France, Madrid
nomi astratti :  fear, courage, beauty
nomi collettivi : swarm, crowd, flock

un nome  può avere la funzione di

soggetto di un verbo :  Tom reads
complemento di un verbo essere diventare sembrare : Mark is an actor
complemento oggetto : I call Michael
complemento indiretto : I speak to Mary

Il genere

maschile : man boy and male animals ( sostituiti dal pronome he / they)
femminile  woman girl and female animals ( sostituiti dal pronome she / They)
Neutro:  tutti gli oggetti inanimati o di cui non sappiamo il sesso

eccezioni

spesso le navi (ship)  sono considerati come femminili  e qualche volta anche le macchine e altri veicoli  quando si ha affetto o rispetto per loro.  Anche paesi in base al loro nome sono considerati femminili
